I recently read an online article that talked about surrounding yourself with like-minded friendships that push you to be a better version of yourself. As you get older, these gems start getting harder to find. Luckily, I met Alejandra Saldaña a couple of years ago in ago in a film photo class we both took at UTEP. It was one of those friendships that you naturally bond. It felt like I had known her for years the first time we met. We’ve recently reconnected and begun shooting together, and I love it. She inspires me, pushes me, and best of all, always makes me laugh.
Of course, I couldn’t resist taking photos of her and sharing the wonderful person that she is. She graciously answered a couple of Q&A below. Enjoy & don’t forget to check out her photo work!
Name: Alejandra Saldaña
From/Current Location: El Paso, Texas
What do you do to keep sane? Be mindful of the present moment and ‘reality’ versus my imagination.
Motto? Eight Verses for Training the Mind
Listening to? The fan.
Current Obsessions? Earl Grey tea
If you could travel anywhere tonight where would it be? Germany, so I can party with those crazy Germans.
Goals this year? To be able to look back months, weeks, days, or even hours before and be able to say that I am a better version of myself at the current moment. So far, so good!
Something that would surprise people about you? The person that I am right now. I feel more comfortable with myself in the way that I am finally finding the courage to live life in a way that makes me happy—less concerned with conventional notions of success.
Advice to 18 year old you? I wouldn’t give myself any advice. I don’t think it would have registered anyway. I needed to learn hard lessons gradually in order to grow towards a better direction.
